about me.
I began painting full-time when, like so many others, my career abruptly shifted during the pandemic. The state of lockdown served as an unprecedented catalyst for going inward: find the artist I’d been all my life, eclipsed for decades by competing pursuits. My first paintings were done on an old drop cloth a house painter had left behind.
I identify as an abstract painter, also drawn to mixed media and collage using oil pastels, Stabilo and charcoal pencils, and glorious scraps of old print materials. Balance, contrast, and movement are critical to my work. Any found object that I discover in nature may become a tool for adding unexpected marks and details.
Never sure where a piece will take me, my passion for social justice fuels my paintbrush and inspires an endless array of images. I wait until a painting is completed to discover what it is saying. Self-taught, I patiently construct and deconstruct my work. The life-giving power of art never fails to impress me.
